NEW DELHI: A judge posted in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district has received a letter demanding Rs 500 crore along with a threat to kill her if she fails to pay, police said on Thursday.The letter, addressed to Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Mohini Bhadauria posted at Teonthar court near the Uttar Pradesh border, was delivered through speed post two days ago, superintendent of police Vivek Singh said."The sender identified himself as a notorious dacoit and threatened to eliminate her if the money was not paid. Based on a complaint, Suhagi police has registered a case under section 308 (extortion) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," the SP informed.According to police, the sender directed that the money be delivered personally by the judge in Baraga, located in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district, by the evening of September 1.Police sources said the sender has been identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Lohgara under Bara police station in Prayagraj district, who claimed to be a member of dacoit Hanuman’s gang."A police team from here has reached UP to nab the accused," SP Singh said.However, some officials said that the sender was not Sandeep Singh, as mentioned in the letter.The complaint was lodged on Tuesday, confirmed Suhagi police station house officer Pawan Shukla from Prayagraj, though he declined to share further details.(With inputs from agency)
