A police constable was shot dead by a friend after being invited to his home under the pretext of a party in Madhya Pradesh in the early hours of Monday. The police are on the lookout for the accused, while the motive behind the killing remains unknown.

The incident occurred in Rewa, where the accused, Rakesh Mishra, invited the victim, police constable Rakesh Kumar Patel, to his house for a party.

Patel accepted the invitation and reached Mishra’s residence late on Sunday, where he was shot in the head. The accused’s brother rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The accused fled the scene and is currently on the run.

Patel, who was posted at a police station in Maihar district, had recently been transferred from Rewa Police Line.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident and launched an investigation. The motive behind the murder has yet to be ascertained.

“A forensic team has been called in to conduct the investigation, and the case is being examined from every possible angle,” said Superintendent of Police Gurukaran Singh.

He added that police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the accused.
