Though Diwali celebrations have ended, the festive rush across India shows no sign of slowing down. Crowded public spaces, devotees pushing to enter temples and scenes of chaos inside packed trains have become all too common across India during the festive season.

A recent video, purportedly filmed on a train from Delhi to Bihar, has now gone viral on social media, capturing the sheer pandemonium that unfolded inside an overcrowded compartment. What seemed like a routine journey quickly descended into disorder, offering a glimpse into the immense strain on India’s railway network during the holiday season.

The 10-second clip, circulating on X (formerly Twitter), shows an almost unimaginable level of chaos inside the packed coach, a scene the user who shared it described as “Mahabharat."

The viral clip shows two women seated next to each other on a berth, trapped between a sea of passengers. Multiple people from below reach up and pull at their hair. Next to one of the women, a man can be seen seated holding a child in his lap . Even he appears to be shoving and pushing at one of the women amid the commotion. Across from them, another passenger sitting on the opposite berth also seems to grab at the woman, adding to the mayhem.

The entire compartment echoes with shouts, screams, and the sound of chaos, as people jostle for space in what appears to be a completely overcrowded coach.

The caption accompanying the post reads, “Here, the Mahabharata has started right on the train now. Take a look at the condition of the people of Bihar."

Since being shared, the video has garnered nearly 278k views. Though the exact train, route or location could not be independently verified, social media users have reacted strongly, expressing a mix of outrage, disbelief and sarcasm in the comments.

Many criticised the behaviour of the passengers, calling it unacceptable. One user highlighted the needless aggression despite everyone sharing the same destination and wrote, “These people are not going to change. When everyone has to go there anyway, then what’s the need for so much fighting and beating?"

Another condemned the man seen tugging at a woman’s hair, angrily questioning, “Who is this animal pulling women’s hair to get a seat?"

Others showed empathy for the child seen in the clip, with one comment reading, “Only feeling bad for that baby," referring to the infant held by the man involved in the scuffle.

Amid the serious reactions, one user took a sarcastic tone, writing, “People, he is just checking to see if their hair is real. Don’t panic," mocking the absurdity of the situation.

The video throws light on the issue of overcrowding during festivals, when packed trains, limited berths and endless rush often turn journeys into ordeals for many passengers.
