Mahadevappa directs officials to respond swiftly to rain damage

Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa, who is also the Minister in charge of Mysuru district, convened a meeting of officials in the city on Wednesday and issued directions to them to take all precautionary measures against rain damage in the district.

Pointing out that monsoon had arrived early in the district, Mr. Mahadevappa reviewed the water levels in the reservoirs and the inflow rate while also asking the officials to respond swiftly to complaints of rain damage.

He directed the officials to immediately provide suitable compensation to the owners of six heads of cattle that had perished in the rain in Nanjangud taluk. He also asked the officials to promptly take up the repair of 146 electric poles that had been damaged in the rains.

He cautioned the officials against possible contamination of drinking water due to seepage of rainwater into water tanks and wells due to heavy rains. “Under no circumstances should drinking water be contaminated”, he said.

With rainfall exceeding expectations, he instructed the officials to ensure that farmers who are preparing for sowing operations do not face any difficulty in accessing adequate seeds and fertilizers.

Mr. Mahadevappa also asked the officials to advise farmers to reduce the use of potassium-based fertilizers as its excessive use could reduce soil fertility.

Even though the number of COVID-19 cases reported in Mysuru district was less, the Minister emphasised the need for people to follow instructions and take necessary precautions. People showing symptoms should undergo a test and receive treatment at the nearest medical facility, he said.

Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru G. Lakshmikant Reddy, City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, District Health Officer Kumaraswamy and other senior officials of district administration were present at the meeting.
