The Maharashtra government has constituted a five-member high-level inquiry committee under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue, Stamps and Registration) Vikas Kharge to conduct a probe into the land row involving Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son, Parth Pawar.
Parth Pawar is accused of using his company, Amadea Enterprises, to purchase government land worth Rs 1,800 crore for only Rs 300 crore, along with a waiver of stamp duty in the Koregaon Park area of Mundhwa, Pune.
Acting upon the directions of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule issued the government order establishing the committee on Friday. The panel has been mandated to submit its findings and recommendations within one month.
Who Are Part Of The Committee?
- Vikas Kharge, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue, Stamps and Registration) – Chairman
- Pune Divisional Commissioner – Member
- Commissioner of Land Records and Director, Land Records – Member
- Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps – Member
- Pune District Collector – Member
- Joint Secretary – Member (Serving in a supporting capacity.)
What Will This Committee Do?
This high-level committee has been tasked to conduct a detailed and impartial inquiry to ascertain whether any irregularities have occurred in the land transactions. If any irregularities are established, they have been given the task to identify the responsible individuals/officials and recommend appropriate disciplinary/legal action.
The committee will also propose corrective measures to restore the land to its original status, if required, and recommend robust preventive mechanisms to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
“The government is committed to upholding transparency and accountability in land administration. This high-level committee will ensure a time-bound, thorough probe, and strict action will be taken against any wrongdoing," Bawankule said.
What Is The Case About?
Pune Police registered an FIR against Parth Pawar, alleging that a 40-acre plot in Pune, valued at nearly Rs 1,800 crore, was sold for just about Rs 300 crore to his company. What has shocked many even more is that the stamp duty paid on the deal was reportedly only Rs 500.
The issue prompted a political uproar, prompting CM Fadnavis to order swift action. Pune Tehsildar Suryakant Yewale was suspended hours after the matter became public. Fadnavis expressed strong displeasure over the irregularities, stating that if any wrongdoing is proven, strict action will follow.
Opposition leaders have demanded a wider investigation into what they call a “clear case of corruption and misuse of power." Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar has distanced himself from this controversy, saying that he has no involvement in the matter and strict action should be taken against the perpetrators.
“I have no direct or indirect connection with that matter. The people of Maharashtra have known me for 35 years. I have decided to get complete information about this matter," he said. “I wish to make clear to officers that I won’t support any wrong actions by anyone citing my name to get their work done."
