A 38-year-old pilgrim from Aurangabad died after being hit by a falling boulder near Gaurikund.
A pilgrim died after being hit by a boulder that fell from a hill near Gaurikund on the Kedarnath Yatra route. The incident occurred on the Kedarnath pilgrimage trail, approximately 1 km above Gaurikund, near Chhauri Gadhera.
The victim, Parmeshwar Bhim Rao Khawal, 38, is a resident of Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
Authorities said the pilgrim was immediately brought to the Gaurikund hospital by the district administration’s Yatra Management Force and local police.
Due to continuous rainfall in Kedarnath Dham and the surrounding Kedargati region, the Mandakini River has swollen, prompting alerts for residents near the river. “The situation has become chaotic due to incessant rain,” officials said.
Following the heavy rainfall, the Kedarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended for safety.
