‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ becomes 8th biggest Hindi hit of 2025 beating Akshay Kumar’s 'Kesari 2' and Sunny Deol’s 'Jaat'

In yet another historic feat, Ashwin Kumar's Mahavatar Narasimha has stormed into the record books by becoming the 8th biggest Hindi grosser of 2025 so far, surpassing the lifetime totals of Sunny Deol’s Jaat (Rs 88.26 crore) and Akshay Kumar’s Kesari 2 (Rs 92.73 crore).

The animated mythological epic has now collected a staggering Rs 107.65 crore in just 16 days, cementing its place as one of the year’s most unexpected and remarkable success stories.The film’s rise is particularly significant because it is an animated feature, a genre that has historically underperformed in India when made by Indians.The Indian box office has a long history where animation films from Hollywood have done exceedingly well be it The Jungle Book or Inside Out 1 and 2 .

However, with Mahavatar Narasimha, the audience has shown that if the story strikes the right chord, format is no barrier.The journey began on a modest note with Rs 1.35 crore on Day 1, but positive word-of-mouth quickly changed the trajectory. Day 2 jumped to Rs 3.25 crore, and Day 3 soared further to Rs 6.8 crore, setting the stage for a strong first weekend and ending week 1 with Rs 32.45 crore in Hindi, while overall collection across languages was at Rs 44.75 crore.

The second weekend proved to be the turning point. On Day 8 , the film recorded earned Rs 5.5 crore in Hindi , and day 9 the collections jumped to Rs 11.5 crore and on 10th day it minted Rs 17.5 crore. The film’s collection stayed steady and during the second week the film earned Rs 54.95 crore in Hindi, taking the overall Hindi collection to Rs 87.4 crore. The film saw a major drop on its third Friday ( day 15) where it collected just Rs 5.25 crore in Hindi but on Saturday ( Day 16) the film saw a 200 % jump as per early estimates by Sacnilk to collect Rs 15 crore in Hindi, thus taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 107.65 crore. The film not only became the first animation film to breach Rs 100 crore mark in Hindi but also went on to become the 8th biggest Hindi film of the year by replacing Jaat and Kesari 2.
