In a move to promote the role of women’s organisations in public service delivery, the Telangana Director of Medical Education (DME) has issued instructions to government hospitals regarding diet services.
According to an official circular dated May 27, hospitals where existing diet service contracts have expired, are now instructed to engage local Mahila Samakyas or District Mahila Samakyas to provide meals to patients.
The decision comes in the wake of a review meeting held on May 24 at the State Secretariat with officials from the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department.
“Authorities agreed that entrusting these services to Mahila Samakyas would not only ensure continuity of patient care but also bolster the participation of women’s self-help groups in the healthcare ecosystem,” the circular said.
All superintendents of Government General Hospitals have been directed to initiate this arrangement immediately in coordination with the respective District Diet Management Committees.
