A day after a youth was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Chithrapriya, an 18-year-old-girl from Mundangamattom near Malayattoor, the Ernakulam Rural police said they were investigating if more people were involved in the crime.

Stating that the investigation was in its early stages, District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha on Thursday (December 11, 2025) said that the police would scientifically examine the phone records of Chithrapriya as well as Alan, the 21-year-old friend of the deceased, who has been remanded in judicial custody. “As per the evidence we have gathered so far, we have named only one person as accused. We need to examine phones and other evidence in detail. Samples have been sent for forensic tests. Further steps will be taken as and when the results come,” Ms. Hemalatha told the media in Aluva. The Kalady police are investigating the case.

“We are investigating if anyone else is involved in the crime. Detailed statements of family members will be recorded to know if they have any suspicion,” she said.

Police sources said they suspect relationship issues between the duo led to the crime.
