A 64-year-old man was arrested on Monday by the police after he was found growing marijuana plants in his home at Kil Salatha in Denaducombai police limits. He was also found in possession of poached deer meat.

The man, identified as Kannan, was arrested after local residents tipped off the police that he was growing marijuana. The police raided his home and chopped down the plants that he was growing in his garden. They ascertained that he was growing 12 marijuana plants and was in possession of 300 grams of the banned substance.

During their search of the premises, they discovered that Kannan was in possession of meat which they suspected to belong to a wild animal. They informed the Forest Department who reached the spot and began investigations into the incident. They learned that Kannan was in possession of a few kilograms of Sambar deer meat and also a few weapons used to skin wild game.

They suspect that the meat was procured from an animal that Kannan had killed, and arrested him.

Officials said that Kannan had been remanded to judicial custody for being in possession of marijuana on Monday, and that the Department would register a case against him for poaching.
