A man climbed a high-tension electricity tower in Raipur on Monday, demanding the removal of alleged encroachment from a piece of land owned by him. The incident occurred in the Silatara outpost area of Raipur district.

The man, identified as Kishan Lal Nishad, is a resident of Sondra village. According to local sources, he has been trying for nearly 12 years to free his land from alleged encroachment by a steel manufacturing company.

Frustrated over the lack of action despite repeated complaints, Nishad climbed the high-tension electricity tower and refused to come down until his land was freed.

He said authorities failed to take concrete action despite several representations.

Following information about the episode, the local Tehsildar, SDM, and police officials rushed to the spot.

As a precautionary measure, the electricity supply in the area was temporarily shut down to prevent any mishap.

At the time the last input was received, officials were still trying to persuade the man to come down safely. The situation sparked significant tension in the area.
