Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly kicking a five-year-old boy who was playing on the road in Thyagarajanagar, in the southern part of the city, on December 14.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 1.10 p.m. when the child was playing on the road. The accused kicked the child from behind allegedly without any provocation, causing minor head injuries and scratches.

The child’s parents filed a complaint based on which the police initially registered a non-cognisable report (NCR), which was later converted into an FIR under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deals with voluntarily causing hurt.

The probe revealed that the accused has psychological issues. By then, a Bengaluru court had granted him bail.

An investigation officer told The Hindu that the accused suffered head injuries in a road accident that happened last month. “After the incident, his parents said they noticed a change in his behaviour. He has now been admitted to a hospital in Tamil Nadu,” the investigator said.
