Indore police on Friday arrested a man who allegedly posed as a police station in-charge and arrived at the home of transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi on Thursday night.

The incident took place in the Rajendra Nagar area while the police were already investigating the high-profile Raja Raghuvanshi murder case.

According to officials, the man, dressed in a khaki uniform, reached Raghuvanshi’s residence claiming to be the police station in-charge.

He began speaking with Raja’s father, but his behaviour raised suspicion. A woman in the family quickly alerted Raja and his brother. When they arrived, the man introduced himself as an old friend of Raja.

On being asked for his identity card and official appointment documents, the visitor reportedly became nervous and failed to provide clear answers.

Sensing something was fishy, the family informed the police, who reached the spot, detained the man, and took him in for questioning.

Initially, the accused identified himself as Bajrang Lal and claimed he worked in the railway department, currently posted in Ujjain.

He further claimed that he had met Raja in 2021 at Ujjain’s Mahakal temple and they had been friends since then. However, police say these claims could not be verified.

Additional DCP Alok Sharma later clarified that the man’s real name is Bajrang Jat. "He is a friend of Raja and said he had come to pay tribute to him. When the family became suspicious, they informed us, and we arrested him," Sharma said.

During interrogation, police discovered that Bajrang Jat is a dismissed constable of the Indian Air Force. He had arrived at the businessman’s home dressed as a police inspector. Authorities are now probing his motive for visiting the house in this manner.

The case has raised further questions amid the ongoing investigation into Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder. Police have not confirmed whether Bajrang’s visit is connected to the case.

"At present, the accused has been arrested and is being questioned to ascertain his real purpose," Sharma added.

Police are examining whether Bajrang’s impersonation was an attempt to gather information, intimidate the family, or for some other reason.

The accused remains in custody, and further investigation is underway.
