COIMBATORE: Three people, including a father-son duo, died in two road accidents in Coimbatore city on Friday morning. In the first accident, a 36-year-old man and his nine-year-old son were run over by a speeding tipper truck near Saravanampatti.
The deceased have been identified as Rajesh of Saravanampatti and his son R Vinith.
Police said Rajesh, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was working as a manager at an IT firm in Keeranatham in Coimbatore district. He was residing with his wife and two sons in an apartment on the Thudiyalur Road near Saravanampatti. The accident happened around 5 am when Rajesh was taking his elder son to a skating academy. When he was trying to take a left turn to the Kalapatti Road from the Coimbatore-Sathyamangalam Road, a tipper truck also took the left turn and hit the motorcycle. The father-son duo fell on the road and came under the front wheel of the truck. They were dragged for at least 20 feet from the accident spot. On being informed, the traffic investigation wing (TIW) police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to the Govt Medical College and ESI Hospital at Varadharajapuram for postmortem. After the postmortem, the bodies were handed over to the family members.The police secured tipper truck driver R Manoharan, 52, of Tirupur district.
Further investigations were on.In the second accident, R Karthikeyan, 47, of Vellakinar in Coimbatore city, died when a speeding bus hit his motorcycle from behind on the Kavundampalayam flyover. TIW (West) police said Karthikeyan was working in a private company. The accident happened when he was on his way to office. When he was travelling on the Kavundampalayam flyover, a private bus hit his motorcycle from behind. Karthikeyan lost control and was thrown off the motorcycle. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. The body was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem. Further investigations were on.
