Man, son get life imprisonment for murder

Berhampur: The district and sessions court, Berhampur, on Tuesday sentenced a man and his son to life imprisonment for the murder of a 55-year-old man at Kaithada under Ganjam district’s Golanthara police station limits over a land dispute, around two years ago.

The convicts were identified as Surendra Behera (69) and his son Mohan Behera (35).The incident took place on Feb 4, 2024 when the father-son duo attacked the deceased , Bhimasen Behera (55), with sharp weapons. When his wife tried to rescue him, they also attacked her injuring her. She lodged a complaint in Golanthara police station. Police arrested the duo.District and sessions judge Ashant Kumar Das sentenced the duo after recording the sentences of 12 witnesses, including that of the deceased’s wife and relative, said Biswajit Baral, public prosecutor. He said the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 to each of the convicts. They will undergo further six months of jail each if they fail to pay the fine, he said.
