Mandala Pooja is one of the most significant rituals observed at the renowned Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple in Kerala. Mandala Puja marks the culmination of 41 days of intense austerity and devotion observed by devotees of Lord Ayyappa.

The procedure of Mandala Puja starts from November 17, 2025 and ends with great on great grandeur and deep spiritual fervour on December 27, 2025. Mandala Pooja draws millions of pilgrims to the temple, symbolising the essence of faith, discipline, and divine blessings.

Mandala Puja at Shabarimala

Lord Ayyappan is honored at the renowned temple of Shabarimala in Kerala.

Every year, on the first day of the Malayalam month of Vrishchikam (November–December) and ending on the eleventh day of the Dhanu month (December–January), Shabarimala performs the Mandala Puja. At the temple, complex ceremonies and a special puja are performed on the last day.

Mandala Puja at Guruvayur

Around the same time that the Mandala Puja is performed in Shabarimala, both regular and extraordinary rites are held at the Guruvayur temple.

Every day, the goddess is bathed in panchagavya, a concoction of five cow products: milk, curd, ghee, urine, and dung. This uncommon substance is thought to have several cleaning properties. As many people visit the pilgrimage site, the temple maintains a festive appearance during this time.

Mandala Puja 2025: Rituals & Rules

Over the period of forty-one days, the devotees who are taking part in Mandala Puja must adhere to a set of rules, practices, and discipline. The Mandala Puja often starts with the aspirant acquiring diksha from a qualified Guru, who is a good and devout individual, who had studied the Vedas and Shastras and is dedicated to leading an ascetic life.

Here are the following Do's and Don'ts for Mandala Puja:

  • Every day, the devotee must take an early morning wash, dress in a particular way, and wear Tulsi Mala with the pendant of the deity they want to appease. This Mala is often presented to the applicant at the beginning of the Mandala Puja after being blessed by the Guru.
  • Following the commitment to perform Mandala Puja, the devotee attends the temple of his preferred deity and performs puja twice a day, in the morning and the evening, at home. Following the Mandala Puja, the devotee travels to the temple of their favorite deity.
  • During the Mandala Puja season, non-vegetarian food, sex, any type of indulgence, amusement, overeating, hot food, useless discourse, lying, immoral activities, bad company, evil thoughts, and unsuitable behavior are all forbidden.
