Manipur CM assures Rs 350 crore to support 3.5 lakh violence-hit women

Imphal: Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday announced that a budgetary provision of Rs 350 crore is being earmarked in the upcoming 2026-27 budget to support women who were affected by the prolonged violence and economic disruption in the state.He said such a provision will benefit 3.5 lakhs women of the state. The CM announced the same while attending International Women’s Day 2026 celebration in Imphal under the theme “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls.”Speaking on the occasion, Singh lauded the courage of Manipuri women and noted that in different phases of the state’s history, they have played crucial roles in Manipur’s economy and politics.

He also prayed that the people displaced by the unprecedented crisis in Manipur would finally be able to go back to their homes, while expressing hope that free movement across the state would be restored.An audio-visual presentation on Mission Shakti was presented during the programme. The mission focuses on ensuring women’s safety, security, and economic empowerment.During the celebration, the CM felicitated Nameirakpam Kunjarani Devi, weight lifter and Padmashree Awardee, and Mangka Mayanglambam, renowned Manipuri folk singer.
