Manipur Police Arrest Three Militants From Banned Outfits For Involvement In Extortion

Manipur police arrested three members of KCP (PWG) for coercing bank employees into giving loan to the beneficiaries. Police seized three mobile phones and drafted letters.

Manipur police have arrested three militants from banned organisations for their alleged involvement in extortion and coercion of bank officials. Police arrested them in Manipur’s Imphal East district.

The arrests targeted active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG). Manipur police shared the details of arrested militants via a post on X.

“On 16.09.2025, Manipur Police arrested 03 (three) active cadres of KCP (PWG) who were involved in extortion and coercion of bank officials to provide loan to beneficiaries," Manipur police’s post reads.

“Thangjam Yaiphaba Meitei (31), Sanjrambam Loha Meitei (29), both of Yumnam Patlou, Mamang Leikai, Imphal East district who were arrested from Khabam Lamkhai Bazar, Imphal East district and iii.Tonjam Hemon Singh (46) of Tangkham Maklha Leikai, Imphal East district who was arrested from Hatta Kangjeibung, Imphal East district," the post added.

On 16.09.2025, Manipur Police arrested 03 (three) active cadres of KCP (PWG) who were involved in extortion and coercion of bank officials to provide loan to beneficiaries, identified as:i.Thangjam Yaiphaba Meitei (31),

Police also shared the items recovered from the possession of the arrested persons. The list is as follows:

  • Three mobile phones along with SIM cards;
  • 2 wallets;
  • Rupees 45 in currency notes;
  • 6 drafted letterheads of KCP (PWG) addressed to Managers of various banks in Greater Imphal area;
  • 9 numbers of envelopes addressed to various bank managers;
  • 1 seal bearing imprint of KCP (PWG);
  • 1 seal bearing imprint “Chief of Finance People’s war group";
  • 2 Aadhaar Cards; and
  • 2 Sling bags black in colour.

Last week, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla emphasised that the government was committed to taking effective steps against illegal immigrants.

Addressing public meetings in Churachandpur and Imphal, Bhalla appealed to the people of Manipur to rise above differences and work together towards peace and prosperity of the state.

“We cannot allow our land to be encroached by people from beyond the borders. Both the state and the Centre are committed to taking effective steps to address this challenge," he said.
