The Congress on Thursday appointed party leader Manish Sharma as the new in-charge of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), replacing Krishna Allavaru, who is currently in charge of poll-bound Bihar.
“Congress president has appointed Manish Sharma as the in-charge of the Indian Youth Congress with immediate effect,” AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said in a statement. “The party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing in-charge Krishna Allavaru,” he added.
Sharma, who hails from Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha, has been associated with Congress student wing NSUI, and used to run a campaign called “Haath Uthao”, raising local issues of the people in Madhya Pradesh.
Sharma was also instrumental in the movement against Agniveer recruitment during Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “Sharma has been working behind the scenes for a few years. He has worked with Rahul Gandhi and has picked up issues like unemployment, reservation.
