Pune: Many schools across the city declared a holiday on Monday independently after heavy rains lashed the city since Sunday night. However, there was no official closure notice from the authorities for the city on Monday or Tuesday.Vijaykumar Thorat, deputy commissioner in Pune Municipal Corporation, said that there is no official order on the closure of schools because no red alert was issued by the IMD for Pune. "Even for tomorrow, there is no red alert. If the IMD revises its forecast, we will take an appropriate decision," said Thorat.Many schools announced holidays and informed parents late last night or early in the morning via messages.

Some informed parents of the late start of school on Monday due to school buses getting stuck in traffic congestion caused by rain, which will also delay their dispersal.A school from Undri messaged parents that due to the delay in students arriving at school, the exams started 20-30 minutes late and therefore their dispersal from school will also be delayed. Another school in Baner, which announced a holiday said that their daycare facility will remain open to facilitate working parents. However, they requested parents to pick up their children before 5pm to ensure everyone's safety
