Maoist mole in WhatsApp! Maoist spy infiltrates police chat groups in Bihar, arrested

AURANGABAD: Aurangabad was jolted by a sensational revelation after police found that a wanted Maoist had successfully infiltrated both the district administration's and police's media coordination groups on an instant messaging platform, police said on Thursday.

The breach came to light on Wednesday when Gaya police arrested Alok Sharma, accused in two Maoist-related cases registered at Banke Bazar and Deo police stations. Police sources said Sharma had long been on their radar for his involvement in several major Maoist incidents in Gaya and Aurangabad and had even been arrested earlier in similar cases. What stunned officials was Sharma's digital masquerade. By slipping into the media coordination groups, he allegedly gained access to sensitive updates on police movements and administrative decisions in real time.

His arrest exposed the infiltration, sparking a wave of alarm within both the police and the district administration. The fallout was swift. While the district administration merely deleted Sharma's number from its group, the Aurangabad police took an even more drastic step, scrapping their group altogether. In an official statement, the Aurangabad police admitted, "Due to the presence of certain undesirable people, all members have been removed and the official police media group has been closed." Officials confirmed that a new, more secure group would be created, restricted to verified members only.
