Shubman Gill, recently named India’s vice-captain for the upcoming T20 Asia Cup, gave fans a glimpse into his time off as he shared pictures from a vacation. Posting on Instagram, the 25-year-old wrote, Never miss the chance to catch a sunset, alongside a couple of images of himself aboard what appears to be a small private yacht.

Dressed in white trousers and a striped navy-blue t-shirt, Gill posed against the backdrop of palm trees and rocky hillocks.

While the exact location of the trip was not revealed, the images suggested he was holidaying outside India.

Gill’s post came shortly after his return to India’s T20I squad was confirmed. The opener last featured in the format over a year ago, against Sri Lanka in Kandy, and was not part of the team that lifted the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.

His recall follows a strong campaign as captain in the five-Test series against England, where India drew 2-2.

The Punjab batter has often been questioned about his place in T20 cricket, but his elevation to vice-captain under Suryakumar Yadav signals the selectors’ trust. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar underlined Gill’s leadership credentials while announcing the squad. “In both T20 cricket (IPL) and Test cricket Gill is already leading.

He was also the vice-captain the last time he played in T20Is. We do see leadership qualities in him, and he showed his quality by exceeding expectations with the bat in England,” Agarkar said.
