Masked gang loots bank at Chadchan, after tying up staff

A gang of masked men carrying country-made pistols and other weapons struck at a branch of State Bank of India in Vijayapura district taking away cash and gold worth crores after tying up the staff on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, the robbery took place on Tuesday evening at the branch of SBI in Chadchan town of Vijayapura district and the robbers decamped with stacks of cash and gold ornaments, the value of which is being ascertained.

The masked men, reportedly five in number, dressed in military-style outfits, threatened the manager, cashier and other employees with dire consequences, tied them up, before taking away the cash and the gold, sources said.

Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi, along with senior officials, rushed to the spot. The news of robbery resulted in large number of people gathering in front of the bank. Having registered a case, the Chadchan Police have launched a manhunt for the accused.
