A massive traffic jam brought Mumbai’s Western Express Highway (WEH) to a near standstill on Thursday, leaving commuters and local residents stranded for hours. The congestion stretched over a long distance, with traffic between Bandra and Andheri particularly affected during the evening rush. Commuters faced significant delays, with journeys that usually take around 30 minutes stretching to nearly two hours.

What began as routine congestion turned into a nightmare, with hundreds of vehicles caught in the snarl. Long queues of vehicles formed along the busy corridor, leading to bumper-to-bumper traffic and mounting frustration among motorists. The traffic jams prompted traffic police to deploy additional personnel, who were working on a war footing to ease congestion and restore smooth traffic flow.

The situation also sparked reactions on social media, with users complaining of persistent issues on the highway. A user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “@mybmc There is always too much congestion on Western Express Highway, & especially ahead of Andheri towards Borivali. You have beautified and eased traffic in SoBo. What about NoBo? When will we get the ease of commute? 1+ hrs to reach Goregaon from Andheri on WEH is not fair. (sic)"

Another user highlighted, “Heavy traffic bumper to bumper at western express Highway between Khar and Santacruz @MTPHereToHelp @Dev_Fadnavis.(sic)"

Commuters also expressed concern over road conditions, with one user tweeting, “@nitin_gadkari Sir, I travel from Dahisar to Bandra through Western Express Highway every day. This is an important road in Mumbai. The entire road is bad, no car can move smoothly. The car jumps. Sick people and pregnant women face the most difficulty. P 1/2 @PiyushGoyal. (sic)"

Authorities urged commuters to remain patient and consider alternative routes where possible as traffic management efforts continued.
