Manchester United looks set to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves in this summer’s transfer window. Both parties are closing on an agreement, which is expected to be finalised in the coming days. Manchester United have reportedly accepted the full fee for Cunha, valued at £62.5 million. The amount will be paid in three instalments over two years, as per BBC Sport. Manchester United have already discussed the personal terms with the player. If everything goes well, the Red Devils will soon approach Wolves formally for the signature of Cuna.
As Manchester United have agreed on his release clause, no club-to-club negotiations will be needed. According to sources cited by the BBC, United must clear the debt by the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
The first instalment of £20.8 million will be paid at the time of the purchase, while the next one will be due at the end of the next season. The final amount is slated to be settled in the summer of 2027.
Cunha came under the radar of Arsenal and Nottingham Forest earlier in January, but no deal materialised. While Manchester United look to strengthen their attack by taking him on board, the 25-year-old seems to have already played his last match for the Wolves, featuring in a 1-1 draw with Brentford in the Premier League.
After the match, Cunha shared a note for the club supporters on social media. He wrote, “Individually, it was the best season of my life. All of this was only possible because of all the dedication and love I have for this club. I became the Brazilian with the most goals in a Premier League season, along with Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Martinelli."
“I made mistakes and got things right, but always because I lived in this club so much. All I ever wanted was to do the impossible for Wolves. Another one is over. And thank you for all the affection," he added.
Since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid, initially on loan, in 2023, Cunha has struck 30 goals in his 92 appearances across competitions. He might be given the No. 10 shirt at Manchester United. Marcus Rashford, who has worn it since 2018, is almost set to leave the club this summer.
