Four-time reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen, who was condemned to a 10th place finish at the Spanish Grand Prix following a crash with Mercedes driver George Russell on Sunday, acknowledged that the accident was the result of pent up frustration as the Red Bull driver took to social media platform Instagram to accept culpability, a day after seeming unrepented over the crash on raceday.

“We had an exciting strategy and good race in Barcelona, till the safety car came out. Our tyre choice to the end and some moves after the safety car restart fuelled my frustration, leading to a move that was not right and shouldn’t have happened," the Dutch driver said.

“I always give everything out there for the team and emotions can run high. You win some together, you lose some together. See you in Montreal," the 27-year-old added.

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri clinched the top spot in Catalunya as teammate Lando Norris followed him to the chequered flag for a 1-2 finish for McLaren. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the podium on the day as he tailed the McLaren pair to the finish line.

The victory in Spain also shot Piastri’s lead at the top, with the Australian pushing his season’s tally to 189 points, while Norris stands right behind him with 176 points.

Verstappen, who has 137 points across the season thus far following the race in Spain, stands third on the drivers championships table with Russell, on 111 points, placed fourth.
