Mayor Sadiq Khan calls on WWE to bring WrestleMania to London

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has once again publicly pitched the idea of bringing WWE’s biggest annual event, WrestleMania, to the British capital. In a recent interview during a CNBC panel at SXSW London, Khan made a direct appeal to WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, saying, “Triple H, if you’re watching, we want WrestleMania to come to London.

”This isn’t the first time Khan has championed the idea. He previously held talks with Levesque and WWE President Nick Khan in July last year. But his latest statement has reignited discussions about whether the spectacle dubbed the “Super Bowl of Wrestling” could finally move beyond North American shores.

London as the ideal WrestleMania destination

Khan positioned London as the ideal host, calling it the “sporting capital of the world.” Backing his claim, he pointed to the city’s long-standing history of hosting major global events - from Wimbledon and the Premier League to American football matchups and the 2012 Olympics.“If WrestleMania came to London, we wouldn’t just have a great weekend - we’d have a festival,” he said. “A celebration featuring WWE legends, current stars, and the next generation of talent.”

Speculation about London as a potential WrestleMania venue has been ongoing since 2023, when John Cena made a surprise appearance at a WWE event in the city and endorsed the idea. Fans across the UK and Europe have echoed that sentiment, calling for WWE to bring its marquee show to a wider international audience.

If the move does happen, it would mark the first time in WrestleMania history that the event is held outside North America.

WWE’s global expansion in full swing

The renewed pitch from Khan comes at a time when WWE is rapidly expanding its global footprint. Earlier this year, the company moved its flagship show, Monday Night RAW, to Netflix globally - a major step in reaching new international audiences and strengthening its presence outside the U.S.Recent international premium live events like Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Elimination Chamber in Perth, and Backlash France have all been received with overwhelming enthusiasm.
