Mental health establishments operating in the Nilgiris have been given a month’s time to register with the Tamil Nadu State Mental Health Authority, failing which they would face action.
In a statement, the district administration stated that mental health establishments, including hospitals, drug recovery, treatment and rehabilitation centres, rehabilitation centres for people living with mental illnesses and centres for helping people with substance abuse are functioning throughout the district. All such centres are required to register with the State Mental Health Authority as mandated by the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.
The operators of such centres have been asked to apply for registration at the office of the State Mental Health Authority on Medavakkam Lake Road in Chennai. Applications for registration can be obtained from the website – https://tnhealth.tn.gov.in/tngovin/dme.php or directly from the office. The State Mental Health Authority can also be contacted via phone at 044-26420965
If the applications were not filed within a period of one month, action would be taken against mental health centres without licences, the district administration said.
