The district unit of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) Employees Welfare Association has demanded the government to clear their salaries pending for the last six months.
Ravishankar Lavate, district president of the association said that nearly 180 outsourced employees working for MGNREGA scheme across the Kalaburagi district had not received their remunerations since December, 2024.
There are nearly 180 employees including technical coordinators, technical engineers, Information-Education and Communication Coordinators, Technical –MIS, who were appointed for each taluk; and Grama Kayaka Mitras for each gram panchayat, Tanda Rozgar Mitra appointed for Tandas (Hamlets) and bare foot technicians(BFT) –who will identify and estimate the MGNREGA works, and mark out the areas and record measurements. The employees were paid anywhere ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹38,000 per month.
