As reported by The Tribune, the sock, covered in rhinestones and stained with age, was picked up by a backstage technician after Jackson’s performance and preserved in a frame for 28 years.

Despite its faded and worn appearance, the sock is now seen as a prized relic by fans. “It really is an exceptional object—even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans,” said auctioneer Aurore Illy.

Worn during 'Billie Jean,' now a collector’s treasure

The off-white athletic sock, encrusted with rhinestones, was worn by Jackson during his HIStory World Tour stop in Nîmes, particularly while performing his signature track 'Billie Jean.' Its sparkle once lit up the stage, and even after years of storage, the memory it carries is priceless to die-hard admirers.

Originally valued between 3000 to 4000 euros, bidding enthusiasm pushed the final price well above expectations.
