Mild tension prevailed in Anantapur city on Sunday, as actor Jr. NTR’s fans tried to lay a siege to the office of Anantapur Urban MLA Daggubati Venkateswara Prasad, forcing the police to use mild force to disperse them.

The fans were furious as Mr. Prasad allegedly made some derogatory comments against their screen idol recently.

In an audio clip that went viral recently, Mr. Prasad was purported to have made derogatory remarks against Jr. NTR when was asked to attend the special screening of the actor’s recent movie, ‘War 2’.

The MLA had dismissed it saying that it was not his voice, but released a video clip tendering an apology as his name had been dragged.

The TDP leadership also took the issue seriously and sought the MLA’s explanation.

Not content with the apology, the fans had announced that they would lay a siege to the MLA’s office in 48 hours if he did not come out in public and apologise.

As the deadline ended, the fans’ association called ‘Chalo Anantapur’ on Sunday following which a good number of the fans from Kadapa, Kurnool and Bellary reached Anantapur.

Anticipating trouble, the police set up check-posts and barricades on the roads leading to the MLA’s office and tightened the bandobust. The police also closed the roads leading to the MLA’s office as also the shops nearby as a precautionary measure. They also conducted checks on the outskirts of Anantapur city and did not allow a few vehicles carrying the fans of Jr. NTR from entering the city.

With some fans gathering and marching towards the MLA’s office, the police caned and chased them away, and took some others into custody and shifted them to the IV Town police station.

The fans association leaders said they would create hurdles for Mr. Prasad wherever he went, and demanded that he be suspended from the party.
