Minister Hazarika expresses faith in judiciary, urges opposition to avoid politicising Zubeen case

Guwahati: Cabinet minister and spokesperson of state govt, Pijush Hazarika, reaffirmed that the govt stands firmly with the people of the state in the same shared emotion, with full faith in the judiciary, for justice for Zubeen Garg.

Meanwhile, BJP here urged opposition political parties not to engage in cheap politics over the singer’s death.Zubeen passed away on Sept 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore. Following his demise, a case was registered by the CID in Assam police based on over 60 FIRs lodged across the state alleging foul play in the singer’s death.In a post on his ‘X’ handle, the minister wrote: “Zubeen Garg is not just a name, he is Assam’s pride, our heartbeat, and an emotion that unites us all.

We were never ready for a day without Zubeen Da. His passing is an irreplaceable loss that Assam will mourn for generations.”He added that from the day of his demise till today, Assam govt under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has been doing everything possible to honour his legacy. “From his return from Singapore to the ongoing pursuit of justice — we stand firmly with the people of Assam in the same shared emotion, with full faith in our judiciary,” he said.

Meanwhile, BJP’s spokesperson Kishore Kumar Bhattacharya urged all opposition political parties and organisations to refrain from engaging in politics over Zubeen and to unite for justice. “Like thousands of Zubeen’s fans, BJP’s 65 lakh workers also want to know the truth behind the untimely demise of the beloved singer. However, as some fans demand, this justice cannot be provided by any govt, administration, chief minister, or political party like BJP, AGP, or Congress.

Only the judiciary can deliver this justice. We must all have faith in the Indian judicial system, one of the strongest in the world,” he added.He said everyone must patiently wait for the necessary time required by the investigating agency and judicial commission to gather this evidence. “Meanwhile, through social media, millions of BJP workers, along with other fans, have participated in the digital movement seeking justice for Zubeen, turning it into a significant global movement,” he added.The BJP spokesperson said respecting public interest, the BJP-led Assam govt has already taken all necessary measures to expedite the justice process, including forming an SIT, establishing Justice Saumitra Saikia’s one-man judicial commission, and setting up a fast-track court for a speedy trial after filing of the chargesheet.He added that respecting the family’s wishes and fans’ demands, a second post-mortem was conducted to ensure no loopholes remain in uncovering the cause of death. “Our party reiterates its determination to ensures that no criminal involved in Zubeen’s death escapes punishment. Zubeen is a treasure of Assam. It is inappropriate for any party to politicise the situation,” he said.
