‘Missing jewels’ from SBI locker found, says bank

Gold valuables which allegedly went missing mysteriously from a locker of the State Bank of India (SBI) was found intact, said the bank in a statement.

In a complaint filed with the Sadashiva Nagar police, one Bindu C.D., alleging theft of valuables from her locker maintained at the State Bank of India, Dollars Colony Branch, New BEL Road, Bengaluru, said that approximately 145 grams of gold ornaments, diamond jewellery, and other valuables stored in her locker had allegedly gone missing. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Sadashivanagar Police Station, and a formal investigation was commenced . 

During the course of the investigation, the police conducted a spot inspection at the bank premises, in the presence of the complainant and independent witnesses, and bank officials concerned .

“During the said proceedings, the complainant personally accessed her locker. It was conclusively established, in her presence as well as that of the independent witnesses, that all articles reportedly missing were, in fact, present and intact inside the locker. It is pertinent to note that the complainant had inadvertently overlooked certain items which were stored deep within the locker,” said the SBI statement. 

According to the official release, the entire process was duly videographed by the investigating authorities to ensure transparency, credibility, and evidentiary value. 

“The police authorities took custody of the locker contents for further procedural formalities. The investigation revealed no signs of any unauthorised access, tampering, or criminal trespass into the said locker. Consequently, the allegation of theft was found to be baseless and devoid of factual substance.

State Bank of India reiterates that at all times, the locker access protocols, surveillance systems, and procedural safeguards at the Dollar Colony Branch remained fully functional, secure, and uncompromised. The investigation affirmed that there was no breach or lapse in the Bank’s operational or security framework,” the release added.
