On the heels of a challenging exit poll narrative, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leadership in West Bengal is intensifying preparations ahead of Counting Day. Abhishek Banerjee is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting with counting agents and senior party leaders on Saturday at 4 pm, aimed at consolidating strategy and boosting cadre morale.

Party sources indicate that the meeting is intended to send a clear message down the organisational hierarchy: maintain patience, remain vigilant, and execute responsibilities with precision during the counting process. The leadership is particularly focused on ensuring that booth-level agents and counting representatives remain disciplined and alert throughout the day.

Banerjee has been actively involved in both electoral strategy and organisational management, including matters related to voter verification processes. In the run-up to counting, he has chaired multiple internal meetings to streamline coordination across districts.

On Thursday, Mamata Banerjee released a video message instructing all party candidates to ensure strict vigilance over strong rooms where EVMs are stored. The directive underscores the party’s emphasis on safeguarding electoral integrity.

Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Bhabanipur counting centre and staying there for more than 3 hours has drawn contrasting political interpretations. BJP’s Sukanta Majumdar criticised the move, stating that it reflects a shift in her political positioning. “This shows she has lost control and is behaving like an opposition leader. Her game is over," he said.

In response, Trinamool leaders dismissed the criticism. Kunal Ghosh stated that the opposition’s efforts would not succeed. “They are trying everything possible, but they will fail," he asserted.

Within the TMC, Mamata Banerjee’s actions are being framed as consistent with her political style. Party insiders describe her as a “street fighter", suggesting that her physical presence at sensitive locations such as counting centres is aimed at reinforcing organisational confidence and exerting administrative pressure. According to party sources, such direct intervention is rare and signals the leadership’s heightened focus on the counting process.

The developments come at a critical juncture, with the party seeking to maintain internal cohesion and operational discipline amid uncertain electoral projections.
