Mob Storms Into Police Station, Assaults Officers After Karni Sena Protest Turns Violent In MP

The violence erupted after tensions escalated in the area over the alleged abduction and assault of a youth, identified as Kunal Singh Rajput, on October 19.

At least three police officials were injured after a mob barged into the Bakal police station in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh late on Wednesday night. The group attacked police officials and damaged property after a day-long protest led by the Karni Sena went out of control.

According to some media reports, nearly 30 to 40 people stormed into the police station around midnight and attacked on-duty officers. The mob allegedly assaulted Head Constable Awadhesh Mishra and Constable KK Shukla, leaving both injured.

Other police personnel rushed to the spot, hearing the noise, and managed to bring the situation under control. The injured police personnel were taken to Bahoriband Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Constable Shukla was seriously injured and was later shifted to Dharmalok Hospital in Katni, where he is undergoing treatment.

Superintendent of Police Abhinay Vishwakarma visited the hospital in the early hours of Thursday to check on the injured constable and review the law and order situation in Bakal.

What Caused The Protest?

The violence erupted after tensions escalated in the area over the alleged abduction and assault of a youth, identified as Kunal Singh Rajput, on October 19.

The police arrested two men, Asim Khan and Amil Khan, in connection with the case. Despite the arrest, the mob turned violent, accusing officials of mishandling the investigation.

The members of Karni Sena, joined by local Hindu organisations and residents, staged a massive protest at the Bakal bus stand. The demonstrators blocked roads, shouted slogans, and demanded the suspension of the local police station in charge, alleging bias in the case.

Late on Wednesday night, the group of protestors returned to the police station and attacked the officials. They also damaged the furniture and equipment at the police station.

Police On High Alert

The police officials are on high alert following the violence in the area. Heavy security has been deployed in and around Bakal to prevent any further violence. The district administration has assured that the situation is now under control.

Complaint Filed Against Attackers

The Police have filed a case against the attackers under various sections related to rioting, unlawful assembly, and assault on public servants. Officials are also reviewing CCTV footage and recording statements of eyewitnesses to identify those involved in the mob attack.
