In a significant organisational move, all Ministers of State (MoS) in the Modi government have been directed to report to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi six days a week — from Monday to Saturday, between 11 AM and 5 PM.
The decision is part of a new strategy aimed at bridging the gap between the party organisation and the Central government. Under this arrangement, MoS will not only be available at the BJP headquarters but will also work closely with party leaders and workers, addressing issues raised by the cadre and ensuring better coordination.
The move comes in response to longstanding concerns from BJP workers across states who often travel to Delhi but are unable to meet central ministers to raise constituency or organisational matters. With many ministers usually occupied with official duties, the lack of direct access had become a recurring complaint. This new system aims to address that gap and institutionalise regular engagement.
Importantly, these sessions are expected to serve a dual purpose. In addition to grievance redressal, Ministers of State will brief party workers on various central schemes — especially those that are state-specific — so they can carry the message back to their constituencies. The BJP sees this as a vital mechanism to amplify its welfare agenda ahead of key elections.
This coordination model is being launched ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections and in the lead-up to crucial state polls in 2026, including in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal. The party sees it as a template that could later be expanded to involve cabinet ministers on a rotational basis, though that is not part of the immediate plan.
A roster has already been drawn up:
- June 28: Savitri Thakur, MoS for Women and Child Development
- June 30: Sanjay Seth, MoS for Defence
- July 1: Harsh Malhotra, MoS for Road Transport
- July 2: Durga Das Uikey, MoS for Tribal Affairs
- July 3: L Murugan, MoS for Information and Broadcasting
- July 4: Krishan Pal Gurjar, MoS for Cooperation
Each MoS is expected to spend at least 6-8 hours at the party headquarters on their assigned day. Over time, this regular interface is intended to enhance election management, streamline feedback, and serve as a bridge between grassroots-level issues and central leadership.
