Senior Congress leader and former MP V. Hanumantha Rao alleged that Indians living in the United States are being subjected to severe injustice and harassment, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is maintaining silence.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Mr. Rao alleged that US President Donald Trump is conspiring to deport Indians from the United States and is exerting pressure even on Green Card holders. He demanded that Prime Minister Modi immediately respond to the difficulties faced by Indians with valid visas.

Mr. Rao also questioned the Modi government’s silence on violence against minorities, asking what action the Centre is taking when people are being killed in the name of religion. He further criticised the Prime Minister for allegedly failing to speak about the issues and welfare of Backward Classes, despite serving three terms as Prime Minister.

The Congress leader accused Modi of attempting to trample upon the Constitution in the name of “Hindu Rashtra”, and alleged that there is a deliberate plan to erase the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi. “While the entire world respects the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, it is unfortunate that Prime Minister Modi is trying to demean him,” Mr. Rao said.
