KANPUR: In a bizarre incident, a mischievous monkey wreaked havoc in the main market of Maudaha town, Hamirpur district, snatching a bundle of Rs 10,800 from a shopkeeper and scattering the notes into the air, sparking a frenzy among onlookers.The incident was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, showcasing the unexpected chaos caused by the primate near the bustling market intersection and police station on Saturday.Bal Gopal runs a shop in Marathipura selling worship materials, brass and copper idols, and other items to support his family. While he was tending to his shop, a mischievous monkey suddenly swooped down from a tree and snatched a bundle of Rs 10,800 from him.

The quick-thinking primate then perched on a nearby branch, tore open the bundle with its teeth, and scattered the currency notes into the air, causing a commotion.

As the monkey scattered the notes, a crowd of onlookers gathered, rushing to collect the cash. Despite Bal Gopal's pleas for help, people scrambled to grab the money, causing a chaotic scene that spilled onto the market road and brought traffic to a standstill.Bal Gopal said he was able to recover only Rs 6,000, with more than Rs 4,800 taken by the public. "No one helped me. People just kept collecting the notes thrown by the monkey," he said.
