Officials in Nandyal and Kurnool districts have been directed to remain alert to face any eventuality in view of the rain forecast issued by the Met department to the State and Rayalaseema region.
With incessant rains in Nandyal district, Minister for Roads and Buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy directed the officials to stay alert and remain available 24x7 to attend to any complaints or emergency situations. The Minister asked officials of the agriculture and horticulture departments to warn farmers about possible crop damage and to take precautionary measures to prevent damage.
Mr. Reddy asked the electricity department to restore power supply immediately and take up repair works if electric poles fall down due to winds or wires getting snapped. The roads and buildings officials were directed to clear uprooted trees to avoid disruption of traffic and public transport.
The Minister advised the people to stay indoors and venture out only in case of any emergency situation. Further, people living in low-lying areas were advised to move to safer places and officials were instructed to take steps to stop people from travelling on weak culverts, bridges, and vulnerable roads.
Superintendent of Police Adhiraj Singh Rana asked police officials and the people to take precautionary measures during heavy winds and rains. He asked people to avoid staying in dilapidated buildings and not take shelter under trees or poles during heavy winds. He asked police to keep vigil at culverts, canals and other overflowing water bodies.
In Kurnool, an alert has been sounded with the release of 90,000 cusecs of water from Tungabhadra Dam on Monday. District Collector P. Ranjith Basha reviewed the situation and asked the officials to be on alert as inflows into Sunkesula reservoir are expected to rise by Tuesday morning (August 19, 2025).
The Collector said that the water reached Meliganuru in Kautalam mandal and directed revenue and irrigation officials to monitor the situation and alert villagers on the flood situation.
Meanwhile, the Srisailam dam officials have lifted three more gates on Monday (August 18, 2025) with heavy inflows from upstream areas. By Monday, 10 out of the total 12 gates were lifted and 3.04 lakh cusecs of water released downstream.
