Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their berth for the first Qualifier of the Indian Premier League 2025, set to be played in New Chandigarh against table-toppers Punjab Kings, after skipper Jitesh Sharma played a 33-ball 85-run blinder, helping RCB chase down their biggest total in the history of IPL against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025 match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday. This also made RCB the first team in the last 18 iterations to win all of their away games in a season.
The 6-wicket win chasing down 228 in the last league game of IPL 2025 was RCB’s seventh straight win away from home. The Men in Red and Black played the campaign openers against defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground in Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens, where they started their IPL 2025 season with a 7-wicket win. They then went on to beat Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, Mumbai Indians at Wankhede, Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mangish Stadium, PBKS in Mullanpur, Delhi Capitals at Kotla, before beating LSG at Ekana.
RCB, however, lost a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Ekana, but that match was rescheduled from the original venue of Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy due to inclement weather predictions, thus technically making Ekana a home game (or rather a neutral venue) for the RCB vs SRH match.
The win over LSG on Tuesday took RCB to 19 points, on equal terms with PBKS to finish second in the standings after the league stage. They bettered KKR and MI’s joint-best record of winning seven out of eight away fixtures after winning all seven away league clashes. Both MI and KKR’s feats came in 2012. In the same season, Delhi Daredevils (Now Delhi Capitals), too, had a good run at home where they won six out of eight league games at Kotla.
