Lok Sabha member Priyanka Jarkiholi launched several development programmes in Hudali village of Belagavi district on Monday.

The MP said that she will focus her energies and local area development funds on strengthening and development of government schools and colleges.

She laid the foundation stone for the government high school building. It will come up on the premises of the primary school and is estimated to cost ₹3 crore. She said that she will urge her father and Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi to see that it is completed as per schedule.

She said that officials will be directed to repair and reconstruct all dilapidated school buildings in the district. “All such work are being initiated with the hope that the future of all children of villages, including the children of Hudali, will be bright,” she said.

She inaugurated the new DCC Bank branch on the PKPS Bank premises there.

Mahatma Gandhi spent nearly three weeks in Hudali in the 1930s. His granddaughter Manu Gandhi was married in Hudali. The village near Belagavi has one of the oldest khadi and village industries unit in the country.

Freedom fighter Gangadhar Rao Deshpande, a senior contemporary of Mahatma Gandhi established the centre in the early 1930s.

Priyanka Jarkiholi garlanded the bust of Deshpande on the khadi centre premises. She recalled the contribution of Gandhi and Deshpande to the freedom struggle and khadi promotion.

Sri Amarasiddheshwara Maha Swami of Ankalagi Sri Addivisiddeshwara Math, DCC Bank director Raju Ankalagi, Education Department officers and others were present.
