MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Wednesday reiterated his support for a Greater Mysuru initiative, stating that it would enable scientific urban planning and ensure better civic amenities.
“The city needs planning for a Greater Mysuru. Several local bodies are functioning without elected representatives and lack adequate funds. Many residential localities are short of basic infrastructure. Civic bodies like Bogadi Town Panchayat and Hootagalli City Municipal Council require financial support to take up development works. If the Greater Mysuru plan is scientifically prepared and implemented, it can benefit the city,” Mr. Yaduveer told presspersons.
On the rising human-animal conflict in Mysuru, H.D. Kote, Sargur, and nearby areas, Mr. Yaduveer said that the carrying capacity of forests must be reassessed in view of intensified conservation efforts.
“There is a need to study the carrying capacity of forests. Based on data, the Forest Department can plan strategies to mitigate the conflicts,” the MP said. He stressed the need for a quicker response to conflict situatons, noting that the department already has data on wildlife populations and habitat limits.
Expressing concern over increasing tiger attacks in Sargur and elephant attacks in Kodagu, the MP said that unwarranted human intervention could disturb natural ecological balances. “Nature has its own mechanisms to balance itself. Experts, too, have highlighted this,” he added.
Referring to the ongoing protests by sugarcane farmers in Belagavi and similar concerns in Mysuru region, Mr. Yaduveer said that the State government must intervene and resolve the issue rather than blaming the Centre. “It has become a strategy of the government to blame the Centre for everything. The Chief Minister must introspect and address farmers’ concerns. The Centre is fulfilling its responsibilities,” he remarked.
