KALYAN: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has booked 25 people for power theft in Titwala, Indira Nagar, Ganesh Wadi, and Ballani areas under its Kalyan rural division.
Officials said the accused tampered with service wires and bypassed meters to steal electricity worth Rs 5.12 lakh.Acting on reports of large-scale theft, Titwala subdivision deputy executive engineer Ganesh Pawar led a team that inspected several locations. The drive revealed that 23,017 units of power had been illegally consumed across 25 spots.MSEDCL said electricity theft is a punishable crime under the Electricity Act, with provisions for imprisonment and heavy fines.The action was carried out under the supervision of Kalyan zone chief engineer Chandramani Mishra, superintendent engineer V.S. Funde, and executive engineer Vinay Kale.
