Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will remain suspended for six hours on Thursday, November 20, from 11 am to 5 pm due to scheduled runway maintenance as part of annual post-monsoon infrastructure upkeep.

The airport operator, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), had confirmed in a statement that both runways — the primary (09/27) and secondary (14/32) — will remain temporarily closed during this period. No flights will take off or land at the airport during the shutdown.

The airport also said that the mandatory NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued six months in advance to notify all stakeholders, enabling airlines to adjust their flight schedules well ahead of time and plan accordingly.

Air passengers flying in and out of the city must check the rescheduled time of their respective flights as disruptions and delays are expected.

The scheduled post-monsoon maintenance work on both runways will be undertaken between 11 am and 5 pm.

As part of the annual maintenance, specialised engineering and airside teams will inspect the micro and macro structures of the runway surfaces — components that experience gradual wear and tear from daily operations.

Airport officials said this preventive work is vital to maintaining the safety, efficiency, and durability of the airport’s airside infrastructure.

CSMIA is among the busiest single-runway airports in the world, handling nearly 900 flight movements every day. Spread over approximately 1,033 acres, the airside area includes an extensive network of runways, taxiways, and aprons.
