Mumbai Metro, Monorail clock 9.9 lakh riders; new lines to push daily count past 10 lakh

The city’s Metro and Monorail networks came very close to a major milestone on August 22, clocking a combined ridership of 9.9 lakh — just 9,668 commuters short of the 10-lakh mark -- for the first time.

While Metro Line 1 (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) alone carried over 5.6 lakh passengers, the elevated corridors of Lines 2A & 7 together added more than 3.3 lakh riders. RIDERSHIP BREAK-UP

Metro Line 1 (Versova–Andheri–Ghatkopar): Carrying the highest passenger load, the 12-km corridor recorded 5,66,851 riders, with 47,237 passengers per km, making it the busiest stretch.Metro Lines 2A & 7 (Dahisar–Andheri–Gundavali): The 35-km stretch registered 3,35,069 riders, translating to 9,573 passengers per km.Metro Line 3 (Aarey–Acharya Atre Chowk): Still in early stages of ridership growth, the 22-km line saw 76,177 riders, averaging 3,463 passengers per km.MonorailChembur-Sant Gadge Maharaj ChowkLength | 20kmRidership | 12,235Per km | 612NETWORK DETAILSStations, opening date and project costMetro Line 1: Opened in June 2014, this 12-station line was built at a cost of Rs 4,321 crore.Metro Lines 2A & 7: Together comprising 30 stations, Phase 1 of these lines opened in April 2022, with full operations beginning in January 2023.
