NEW DELHI: BJP leader Sanjay Jaiswal defended the Bihar government's response to the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Muzaffarpur, countering criticism from RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav about administrative delays in the victim's treatment.
The 10-year-old victim, who was attacked on May 26, died at Patna Medical College and Hospital on June 1, prompting investigations and action against hospital staff responsible for delays in her admission. The BJP leader emphasized that all efforts were made to save the girl and that the accused was apprehended within 12 hours of the incident."All efforts were made to save her. The delay which occurred in PMCH was sad.
Actions have been taken against the accused. The government itself is not present everywhere; the system of government is there. Action was taken on the shortcomings found in the system. Can't Tejashwi see that the accused of the incident was nabbed within 12 hours of the incident. In his father's time, what happened with Shilpi Jain and Champa Vishwas, will Tejashwi apologise for that?" said Jaiswal.RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had earlier criticized the state's "double-engine" government, alleging administrative failures and lack of leadership attention to the case.
"The double-engine government has failed in Bihar. The CM never discussed this; I am unsure if he is even aware of the incidents. Law and order have collapsed. There is administrative anarchy in the whole of Bihar. No action is being taken... No one has time to meet the victim or the victim's family. The CM and both the Deputy CMs are busy in political programmes," Tejashwi Yadav said.Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey condemned the incident as "extremely sad and painful" and assured swift action in the case.Muzaffarpur SSP Sushil Kumar provided details about the arrest and investigation process."This incident occurred on May 27...The accused lived in a neighbouring village and knew them. He used to come there often. He was a fish seller. He lured the girl and raped her. Taking swift action, the Police arrested the accused. He has been sent to judicial custody. The FSL team had gone there, and the spot was examined. All samples have been collected, including samples from clothes too," Kumar said. The SSP further added that they would file a chargesheet within 15 days and ensure a speedy trial. The victim's relatives alleged that the child was left waiting in an ambulance for several hours before being admitted to the hospital. The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the case based on media reports about the victim's death at PMCH and has requested a detailed report from state authorities. The accused, who has been identified as a local fish seller from a neighboring village, was known to the victim's family and has been arrested and placed in judicial custody. All forensic samples, including clothing evidence, have been collected and sent for examination as part of the investigation.
