Mysuru Dasara Film Festival to begin early this year

The Mysuru Dasara Film Festival 2025 is all set to kick off early this year, with its inaugural event scheduled for September 13, at the basement of the Mall of Mysore here.

The festival will be inaugurated at 11:00 a.m. by Minister in charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa. The event will feature appearances by film personalities, including actors from the Kannada film Su from So like Sandhya Arekere and Prithvi Ambar, singers Juskaran and Nagarajun Sharma, and actor Anjali.

This year, the festival is specially dedicated to the legendary actress B. Sarojadevi, who passed away recently. Several of her iconic films will be screened at the event as a tribute.

From September 14 to 20, award-winning films of national and international repute will be showcased across three screens at INOX Cinemas, Mall of Mysore. The festival will prioritise children’s films and films directed by women. In total, 84 films are slated for screening, promising to delight film enthusiasts.

Additionally, from September 14 to 18, the corridors of INOX Cinemas will host a film photography exhibition. The exhibition will pay homage to renowned film personalities Puttanna Kanagal, S. Lakshmi Narayan, Siddalingaiah, and Ravi, by displaying photographs chronicling their cinematic journeys.

Short films that recently won acclaim in a competition will also be screened during the festival. On September 18, the first, second, and third prize-winning short films will be showcased, with awards presented for excellence in film editing and cinematography, a press release said.

As in previous years, film passes will be available for both students and the general public. Students can obtain a pass for ₹300, while the general public will be charged ₹500. The pass provides unlimited access to all films screened during the seven-day festival, and will also include a handbook about the films to be screened at the festival.
