A day after naming Nitin Nabin as working president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), MLA Sanjay Saraogi on Monday (December 15, 2025) was appointed as new Bihar BJP State president replacing Dilip Kumar Jaiswal.
The letter issued by the party’s national general secretary Arun Singh stated that the national president of the BJP, J. P. Nadda has made the appointment which would be effective immediately.
The 56-year-old leader is a popular face in Mithilanchal region and has been MLA for five consecutive terms from Darbhanga Sadar Assembly constituency. Hailing from the Vaishya community, which is the core voter of the party, he earlier served as the coordinator of the Bihar State BJP Cow Protection Cell.

Last year on July 26, Mr. Jaiswal was appointed the Bihar BJP president replacing Samrat Choudhary who is now Deputy Chief Minister of the State.
After Mr. Jaiswal became the Cabinet Minister in the new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, talks had started that Bihar will get the new party chief following the policy of one man one post.
Mr. Saraogi held various positions in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for 10 years during his student days. In 1999, he also held the position of district minister of the Bharatiya Yuva Janata Morcha (BJYM).
In 2002, he was elected as a Councilor from Ward No. 6 of the Darbhanga Municipal Corporation and in 2003 he held the position of general secretary of the Darbhanga district BJP.
Mr. Saraogi was first elected as an MLA from the Darbhanga Sadar Assembly constituency in February 2005. He was subsequently elected MLA consecutively in 2005 (November), 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025.
He was also the Chairman of the Estimates Committee of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2017 and for the first time, he served as Minister of Revenue and Land Reforms in the Bihar Government since February 2025.
Mr. Saraogi served as a member of the State Executive Committee, as well as the organisation election in-charge and membership in-charge in several districts of Bihar.
Reacting to his appointment, Mr. Saraogi said, “The party has given me a big responsibility and I will take everyone along and work to strengthen the party.”
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar congratulated and extended his best wishes to Mr. Saraogi on his appointment as the BJP’s State president. Bihar Legislative Assembly speaker Prem Kumar and other leaders of Bihar BJP also congratulated Mr. Saraogi.
