BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran on Wednesday alleged that instead of addressing the demands of the protesting conservancy workers, the DMK government was using police force to disperse and detain them.
In a statement, Mr. Nagenthran said conservancy workers in Chennai, Cuddalore, Tirunelveli, Madurai and Tiruppur have been staging protests over the past few days, demanding job permanency and implementation of assurances given by the DMK in its 2021 Assembly election manifesto.
He alleged rather than fulfilling their demands, the DMK government was keen on dispersing the protestors and detaining them by force. While the DMK repeatedly promises welfare measures for the working class during elections, it fails to fulfil them after assuming power.
“The BJP will continue to support the cause of conservancy workers. If the DMK government believes it can suppress the people’s anger through force, it will only end in disaster,” Mr. Nagenthran said.
