Valpoi: The Valpoi Judicial Magistrate First Class on Wednesday remanded five accused persons to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the Honda Narkasur night violence case.
Three other accused were remanded to police custody till Oct 23.
In all, eight people were arrested on Tuesday in relation to the incident, which saw a car being set ablaze outside the Honda police outpost.Meanwhile, the case took a political turn after Poriem MLA Deviya Rane termed the complainant, Rupesh Poke, as a “habitual complainer”. “There are hundreds of cases filed by Poke, either in the panchayat or at the police station,” Rane alleged. The MLA also criticised the police investigation, claiming that innocent people are being arrested. “I’m not saying people should take the law into their own hands but police should arrest people involved,” she said. She demanded police review CCTV footage from the area, calling the probe on Narkasur night totally “mismanaged.”“They have not arrested those involved. Police picked up even passer-bys who were gathered at the Narkasur rally.
I blame the police fully,” she said.Rupesh Poke refuted all claims made by the MLA. “I do not accept the allegations made against me by Poriem MLA Deviya Rane. I am working for society, and if something wrong happens, I cannot ignore it. I raise issues in good faith, not for extortion,” Poke further said. The Principal District and Sessions Judge, North Goa, granted interim relief to Honda sarpanch Shivdas Madkar and panch Krishna Gaonkar in connection with the same case.
